All locations in the Amsterdam port area have excellent accessibility by road, water and rail. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is very near by.
In the Amsterdam port area you do not have to search for a company long, thanks to a carefully created signposting system. When a company sets up in Westpoort, it receives its own, unique Westpoort number. At the entrance of each business complex this number is shown on traffic signs in a yellow and blue text. Along access roads to the Amsterdam port there is an index of these Westpoort numbers. You can see these numbers on the map.
The enlargements open in new frames and vary in size between 165Kb tot 516Kb.
The Amsterdam port is easily accessible via the ring road A10 or from the west via the Westpoortweg and the Noordzeeweg. The centre of Amsterdam is only eight kilometres from the port.
Future infrastructure
Due to the construction of the Westrandweg, traffic from North to South will get a direct connection to the A9 and the A4 highways by Schiphol. Traffic to and from Amstelveen and Schiphol will go along the Westrandweg instead of the A10. The Westrandweg will probably be constructed in phases and will be ready in 2012.
The North Sea Canal connects the North Sea and the Amsterdam port area. The lock complex at IJmuiden gives access to this. The current lock complex has three locks, the large Noorder lock and the smaller Midden and Zuider locks. The Noorder lock is intended for large ships, the other two serve smaller ships including inland shipping. To guarantee efficient, swift and safe access to the canal for the future, preliminary research is being done on a larger lock.
Along the North Sea Canal are many of the port mooring basins of Amsterdam, such as the Afrika harbour, the Amerika harbour, the West harbour and the Petroleum harbour. The map shows the water depth of each port basin. By dredging regularly the Port Authority ensures that the port basins remain at the necessary water depth.
Bus
There are various bus lines in the port area connected to the Railway station Sloterdijk. The map shows the routes of the various bus lines and their numbers. The Municipal Transport Company has detailed information on departure times and frequencies:
Private passenger transport
Westpoort bus or W-bus handles personnel transport to and from work for a number of participating companies in the Amsterdam port area.
Hydrofoil
The hydrofoil of Fast Flying Ferries forms a rapid connection between the centre of Amsterdam and Velsen. Within a half hour these boats bring you from Amsterdam Central Station to the Pontplein in Velzen Zuid. For timetable and tariffs contact the transport company Connexxion.
Own rail track
The Amsterdam port area has its own railway tracks. See map below. A company resident has the possibility to link with the railway network. Port of Amsterdam takes care of the co-ordination between your company and ProRail.
