Haven Amsterdam

Services

Port of Amsterdam takes good care of the maintenance of the port area and makes every effort to create safe surroundings. This takes place in close co-operation with the municipality of Amsterdam and all the existing companies in the port.

Management and maintenance

One important task of Port of Amsterdam is the management and maintenance of the public space in the port area. It inspects and maintains roads, green areas, entries, embankments, craneways, warehouses and water-based furnishings (buoys, channel guides and quay lighting). A company that is situated in the Amsterdam port area can count on the management and maintenance of sites being well taken care of. The management and maintenance department is situated in the Petroleumhaven of Westpoort.

Safety

For both the municipality and Port of Amsterdam, port safety is of the greatest importance. A safe port (both in the water as on land) is important for a positive business climate.

Collective security
The Westpoort Collective Security Foundation has the task to guard and secure the public areas and corporate sites. The Foundation is an initiative of the municipality of Amsterdam, the chamber of commerce and the corporate world. Each company in the Amsterdam port can join this security project.

Port Security

Port Security is the general name for an international security project that aims at protecting ports from terrorism. The project is an initiative of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). From the first of July 2004, the security guideline 'Ship Port Facility Security Code, the ISPS Code' will be valid.

This international regulation obliges measures to be taken for the protection of ships and port services. In the first instance attention is paid to a ship and crew. The regulations are aimed at the interaction between the ship and the port services. The next step is the total protection of the port areas and is also valid for the companies that have no involvement with ships.
