The Amsterdam region has a strong magnetic effect on the headquarters of international Dutch companies. The good flight connections to and from Schiphol dovetail with the need of group managements to be closer to their global business.
Numico is one such international Dutch company that in the past decade relocated to the Amsterdam region. Until 2003 the food company was headquartered in Zoetermeer. Other major names include Philips relocating its headquarters from Eindhoven to the capital, Ahold crossing the IJ from Zaandam and TNT exchanging The Hague for Hoofddorp. In Arnhem the moving boxes are ready to relocate the headquarters of Akzo Nobel to Amsterdam.
For numerous reasons Amsterdam is clearly attractive, with the presence of an impressive international airport a major advantage. In the European Cities Monitor the Amsterdam region now joins the Top-4 in terms of the best external transport connections, together with London, Paris and Frankfurt.
